Warrnambool’s Lighthouse Theatre redevelopment provides world class facilities for both community and professional users.

It attracts the very best performances from around Australia, while delivering an improved theatre experience for local patrons. Formerly Warrnambool Entertainment Centre, Lighthouse Theatre is the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by the local council in the town centre.

Presenting a diverse array of acclaimed national and international artists, touring productions and local performances, Lighthouse Theatre is the hub of live entertainment in the region.

The redevelopment by Basso Project Management included demolition, extension and refurbishment of an existing performing arts centre, and retains many architectural hallmarks of the historic old town hall on the corner of Liebig and Timor streets.

The new theatre centre has better access, bigger foyer, contemporary cafe, modern bar, improved lighting, superior acoustics, greater stage areas and orchestra pit, upgraded theatre and stage equipment, increased amenities and more conformable seating. It features the latest in theatre technology and amenities, an intimate performance space for intimate performances and a contemporary facade which has redefined Warrnambool’s cultural precinct.

The expanded centre can now attract bigger, better shows and performances, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It brings a greater range of performing arts to regional Victoria.

Multiple stakeholders had to be satisfied with funding from state government grants, federal government, city council as well as several philanthropic funds.

Basso Project Management had to deal with a range of latent conditions that became apparent only after demolition and construction began. Basso Project Management was able to be more diligent by managing variations with builders to save any cost blowouts.

By continually asking questions and refining processes, Basso Project Management was able to deliver on time and on budget.

“The Warrnambool City Council is one of the best clients we have ever dealt with. They trusted us and allowed us to do our job properly and welcomed our recommendations and advice. They inspired us to go the extra mile.” Elia Basso, Director, Basso Project Management
